Carrying My Cross

I know it; the cross is a one way trip.
They won't care if I stumble and slip.

Under its weight, I'm not likely
to dance and skip.
Jesus didn't, on that horrible day.

I understood him when I heard him say,
"Take up your cross and follow me!"

This makes no sense unless you can see
what would happen to people for eternity.

The cross is not a mere inconvenience I bear.
No; they throw you down,
then nail you there!

The cross was designed to drive you insane.
It was meant to cause maximum pain.

What Jesus meant is terribly plain.
I, too, must be willing to risk fiery bolts
of crucifixion pain.

Why would Jesus be so willing to die?
There's only one rational reason why.

With humans about to burn for eternity,
in sulfuric acid,
How could Jesus remain calm and placid!

If Jesus was willing to go through all that
to rescue us from eternal flame,
Then, can't I be willing in his Holy Name?

He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
( Matthew 10:37-39 )(KJV)

We all have our cross to carry for our Jesus who died on the cross for us all.
