How Can I Survive This Pain?



Dear Lord, my broken heart cannot
Survive this awful pain,
And all the peace that once I knew,
It seems I can’t regain.


Although I know I’ll see my loved one
Once again some day,
Somehow our meeting on that shore
Seems very far away.



I’ve tried to rid my heart and mind
Of all my doubts and fears,
But still I wake each morn and find
My pillow soaked with tears.


Friends tell me that my grief will lessen
As the time goes by,
Yet still it comes in waves, and then
It seems to multiply.



But even in my grief I find
I’m comforted to know
I can’t escape Your love – it’s with me
Everywhere I go.


And I’m assured You’ll help me with
Each problem that I face,
And wrap me in Your arms of love,
Enfolded by Your grace.



So Lord, I pray You’ll give me strength
To trust You each day more,
And have the inner faith and peace
That I have known before.
